Dracula’s Cellar Discovered by Archaeologists

Archaeologists have found a cellar in the town of Pécs in southern Hungary, believed to have belonged to Wallachian Duke Vlad III, more commonly known as Vlad the Impaler or Dracula.

Tamás Fedeles, a tutor of medieval and early modern history at Pécs University said his research showed that Vlad III Tepes lived in a two-story town house on what is now the city’s central square.

Wallachia, which is now modern-day southern Romania, was ruled by Vlad Tepes during his first reign as crown prince at age (more. . .)

Become a Halloween Vampire – makeup and fangs

It’s almost that time of year again where the dead rise and walk amongst us.

Here are some videos and links for costumes to help you achieve the perfect look. We all want to look our vampy best don’t we? There will be makeup tips, a how-to for applying realistic fangs and bite marks.

First, here is an instructional video on some pretty extreme female vamp face. It’s worth going through the slight waffling about various cosmetic brushes etc to get to the end product but (more. . .)

Buffy’s had a baby! Sarah Michelle Gellar’s baby girl

Sarah Michelle Gellar (now known as Prinze) and hubby Freddy Prinze Jr welcomed a new baby girl Charlotte Grace on Saturday September 19. A rep for the couple said,”the family is over the moon.”

Thirty two year old Gellar and 33-year-old Prinze met in 1997 on the set of “I Know What You Did Last Summer.” They married in 2002 after dating for two years. As a gift to her husband for their fifth wedding anniversary Sarah Michelle officially changed her last name to Prinze.

Although no (more. . .)

Zombies and Vampires and Weres Oh My!

For those of you who haven’t discovered the fabulous Anita Blake Vampire Hunter book series by Laurell K Hamilton you are in for a treat.

I had heard the name bandied about but every time I looked at a cover there was always something about them being romance books so I put off reading them. Whoever put that blurb on the covers really did them an injustice. Yes, there is romance of a sort but not the sparkly Twilight type romance and none at all to (more. . .)

From a Whisper to a Scream

This is not about vampires. But it is about darkness, anguish and pain and seems to fit well here. It’s a piece of my own writing I wrote on another site quite a while ago but took it down. I thought I’d share it here.

A cry for help is sometimes a silent scream. It bellows into the night only to dissipate into vapour, caught in an invisible mist of sadness that surrounds but never penetrates those who pass it by. A death shroud.

The deafening roar (more. . .)

Let the Right One In – John Ajvide Lindqvist

Let the Right One In is a vampire book quite unlike any other. If you are into the vampire world of Twilight this is not the book for you. Although the subtitle of the book is ‘A Vampire Love Story’, this is not the teen ‘heart aflutter’ romance that seems quite prevalent in contemporary vampire literature. It is a unique and very bleak story of friendship forged between a bullied pre-adolescent boy, Oskar, and the enigmatic Eli, a strange and mysterious newcomer who moves into the (more. . .)

The Celebrity Damned

See your favourite celebrities as you’ve never seen them before. Wonderful dark, demonic sides of people you would never expect.

So why have Megan Fox, Whoopi Goldberg, Marilyn Monroe, Snoop Dog and others vamped out? Were they bitten one dark and spooky night? Well…no. Worth1000.com is a design website quite unlike any other. If you are into Photoshop and design it is definitely a site you should check out and join. They run competitions where they will give a subject and members can submit entries for judging (more. . .)

The Saga of Darren Shan Auction for Autism

The lovely Jason From Salty Popcorn brought this to my attention and I thought I’d share it with all of my little children of the night.

For those not familiar with the books, The Saga of Darren Shan set of 12 books is a vampire story with shades of Harry Potter thrown in for good measure. The books written by Darren Shan (real name Darren O’Shaughnessy) follow the story of Darren Shan, an ordinary normal human schoolboy until he and his best friend Steve get tickets to (more. . .)

Vampire Songs

What are your favourite vampire themed songs? Are you in the dreamy romantic camp, the indie, the punk or into the heavy metal sounds?

There are lots of songs out there; some obvious, some obscure and perhaps some you’ve never heard of or some that you know about that you’d like to share with the readers. Here are a few of the different styles out there.

Do you have a favourite among them or would you like to add you own? From the obvious to the songs (more. . .)

Hunt. The word hung in the cold air like fog.

“You mean you’re going to kill something…or somebody?”

“No, WE are going to kill somebody. You had no problem killing that woman back there. This is how we survive. You’ve done it once now, it will become easier”.

I felt sickened. I had just killed someone. Not only had I killed her, I drank her, all of her. And I enjoyed it. Oh God, what have I done?

I looked up (more. . .)

We interrupt this program…

Sorry about the delay with the ‘My Awakening’ series. I’m having major computer and internet problems so I thought I’d better put a notice up before it all crashes to say all will be back to normal soon. I hope. Next post should be up soon if the technical Gods are on my side.

Grrr.

Colin, the newest Zombie sensation at Cannes

There isn’t much you can do with under a 100 bucks nowadays. Have a cheap night out,  go the pub for a few drinks, make a movie that kills them at Cannes…Whoa, what the?

Amateur filmmaker, Marc Price, has done the unthinkable and made a “no-budget” movie that looks set to be picked up by Hollywood after wowing the critics at Cannes.

Price came up with the idea for his film after a drunken night watching horror flicks…as one does. Deciding to take a bit of a (more. . .)

He spun on his heel and started to walk away. I stood motionless not knowing what to do next.  Is he leaving me here to fend for myself? Do I follow him?

After his body disappeared into the darkness of the surrounding trees I heard his voice. “Well are you just going to stand there?” I thought about this for a moment, actually thinking that might be the better option. This man…this thing…had turned me into something inhuman, something unspeakable, (more. . .)

Buffy The Vampire Slayer – The Relaunch Movie

Who will be the new face of Buffy?

Well it looks like a new Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie will hit the big screen after all. But before you get too excited about the prospect, neither Joss Whedon or any of the former cast will be involved.

The new movie will have no connection to the TV series so Sarah Michelle and Co will not be on board.

Roy Lee and Doug Davison of Vertigo Entertainment are working in conjunction with Fran Rubel Kuzui who directed the (more. . .)

My eyes flew open.

I rolled onto my side and vomited. Endless waves of half congealed blood splashed onto the ground. I heaved until there was nothing left. Emptiness. Of the stomach, of the heart and of the mind.

Eeeuw, Jesus, what a mess.

“Well that was a waste” he said from behind me, “Soon we will have to hunt, the hunger will come back stronger”.

“Does this happen to everyone and…oh God, will it happen again?” I asked, hoping like hell that I would (more. . .)

Strength.

That’s what I’m feeling. Unbelievable bone crunching strength.

I cast the girl aside and she crumples. She looks like a rag doll where the stitching has burst apart and made her head almost fall off. The image in my head makes me giggle. The giggle erupts into an uncontrolled burst of laughter, rolling in waves until I am spent.

She is definitely dead, no doubt about it. Why is that so funny? It makes me laugh all over again. What (more. . .)

International Zombie Day

Today, Saturday 9 May 2009, is International Zombie Day. I didn’t know until a very amused friend called me from Melbourne to say he turned a corner and walked into a throng of the living dead parading through the streets. He managed to safely tuck himself away in the cinema and managed to escape with his brain intact.

Looks like a normal bunch of people going home after a big night out!

Now of course, had I done my homework, I would have known all about (more. . .)
