Spike TV’s Scream 2009 Awards – Vamps Rule!

On October 17 The Spike TV’s Scream 2009 Awards were held and some of our favourite vampires took home the big prizes. The awards show honors the best in sci-fi, horror, fantasy and comic-inspired movies and TV shows.

The star-studded event is scheduled to air as a two-hour special on Spike TV on October 27.

The winners were as follows:

Best Horror Movie - Drag Me to Hell

Best Horror Actor Male – Stephen Moyer – True Blood

Best Horror Actor Female – Anna Paquin – True Blood

Best TV Show – True Blood

Best Villain - Alexander Skarsgård — True Blood

Best Fantasy Movie – Twilight

Best Fantasy Actor – Robert Pattinson

Best Fantasy Actress – Kristen Stewart

Best Director - JJ Abrams – Star Trek

Best Sci-Fi Actress - Megan Fox — Transformers 2

Break-out Performance Female – Isabelle Lucas  - Transformers 2

Break-out Performance Male – Taylor Lautner – Twilight

Most Anticipated Fantasy Film –Alice in Wonderland

Scream Mastermind Lifetime Achievement Award - George A. Romero

Comic-Con Icon Lifetime Achievement Award – Stan Lee

Ultimate Scream – Star Trek

Fans voted online for the winners, so some of the year’s most popular films and TV shows took home trophies including our all-time fave True Blood which was a four-time winner, winning best TV show, along with best villain for Alexander Skarsgard and best horror actor and actress for Stephen Moyer and Anna Paquin.

Twilight also won four gongs for Best Fantasy Film, Best Fantasy actor and actress for Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart and Breakout Performance for star Taylor Lautner. Although Rob and Kristen weren’t in attendance Taylor presented world-premiere footage from the film’s next installment, New Moon.

The show opened with a larger-than-life snow globefilled with two creepy murderous little girls who emerged from the orb with one slashing the other’s throat. There was also a zombie piano player, a Battlestar Gallactica spaceship and comic-book legend Stan Lee flew overhead on a bouquet of giant balloons proving this ain’t no ordinary awards show.

It was a star studded event with Keith Richards receiving a standing ovation as Johnny Depp presented the legendary Rolling Stones guitarist with the Rock Immortal award.

Presenters included Jessica Alba, Kate Bosworth, Harrison Ford, Justin Long, Christina Ricci, Morgan Freeman and Quentin Tarantino.
