Fright Night Remake

Fright Night Remake

It’s been bandied about for a while but Fright Night is now definitely being remade with Colin Farrell sinking his teeth into the role of the suave vampire Jerry Dandridge, a role played brilliantly by Chris Sarandon in the original 1985 cult film.  Australia’s own, Toni Collette, will play the mother of a teen who can’t convince anyone that his new neighbour is a vampire and she promptly falls under the spell of the cool and charismatic new vamp in town. Of course, she doesn’t believe her son either.

The new version by Dreamworks will stick to the original concept of camp horror comedy and have cast Anton Yelchin (Terminator Salvation /Star Trek) in the role of Charley Brewster, the teen who initially is the only person who knows what Jerry really is.

The film is directed by Craig Gillespie (Lars and the Real Girl) and written by Marti Noxon who wrote oh so cleverly for the series Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

When I first heard about the remake I was slightly dubious -  I loved the original – but with Noxon on board the writing should be whip-smart and with the casting of Farrell and Collette, I think this will definitely be worth a look.

Farrell’s last hit movie was the surprise hit, In Bruges after a bit of a career slump. Collette is an Academy Award Nominated actress who is currently starring in the brilliant United States of Tara.
