Mortensen Offered Lead Role In Dracula Project 8 Years In The Making

Bela Lugosi Dracula

Viggo Mortensen has been offered the lead role as Henry Clemens in “The Last Voyage of the Demeter”. This was originally reported by bloody-disgusting.com who says, “an exclusive source” has told them.

The film project which had sat dormant for quite some time was originally started back in 2004 when writer Bragi F. Schut (Threshold(TV), Season of the Witch)  wrote the original screenplay. It has since been rewritten by true crime bestselling author Lowell Cauffiel (books: Masquerade, Eye of the Beholder, House of Secrets).

The story will follow the ill-fated Russian ship Demeter’s trip from Transylvania to England. Within their cargo is, “a number of great wooden boxes filled with mould (mold).” Unfortunately for the ship’s crew one of those wooden boxes included Dracula. The Count then feeds on the crew one by one, a story told by the ship’s Captain’s log. The Captain, who will be portrayed by Academy Award winner Ben Kingsley, is the last to go. He is found strapped to the ship’s wheel when it runs aground in destination of Whitby.

Noomi Repace, fresh off the success of Prometheus, is expected to portray Anna Billington, a stowaway who is believed to be related to the Whitby solicitor S.F. Billington to whom the ship’s cargo is consigned to.

It will be nice to see a new take on Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Rather than just redoing the usual story they are taking a small portion and expanding upon it. I am anxiously awaiting the announcement of who will be portraying Dracula in the film.
